Heavy Machinery Moving in Manhattan

Manhattan’s commercial density, older building stock, and strict building code requirements make machinery moving a technically demanding operation. RiggingNYC regularly moves heavy equipment through Manhattan building lobbies, service corridors, and freight elevators — places where standard moving equipment simply does not fit.

Heavy Machinery Moving in Brooklyn

Brooklyn’s large industrial base particularly in Sunset Park, Red Hook, Greenpoint, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard makes it one of the city’s most active zones for machinery moving. RiggingNYC provides full rigging and equipment relocation services across Brooklyn’s industrial and commercial corridors.

Heavy Machinery Moving in Queens

Queens hosts New York City’s largest concentration of industrial facilities, including printing operations, food processing plants, and manufacturing businesses in Maspeth, Ridgewood, Woodside, and the broader industrial corridor. RiggingNYC is an experienced machinery moving contractor throughout Queens.

Heavy Machinery Moving in The Bronx

The Bronx’s Hunts Point Market and surrounding industrial areas create consistent demand for machinery moving services. RiggingNYC provides heavy equipment rigging and relocation throughout the Bronx’s industrial zones and growing commercial development areas.

Heavy Machinery Moving in Staten Island

Staten Island’s industrial areas and large-footprint commercial facilities create demand for machinery moving services that take advantage of the borough’s comparatively accessible road network. RiggingNYC provides full machinery moving services across Staten Island.

Project

A commercial printing company in Manhattan’s Garment District needed to relocate a 45,000 lb offset printing press from the second floor of their building to a ground-floor facility three blocks away. The second-floor location had a single freight elevator with a 10,000 lb capacity limit far below the press weight. The press could not be disassembled without voiding its warranty.

Challenge

Moving a 45,000 lb indivisible load from a second-floor NYC building with no crane access and a freight elevator well below capacity.

Solution

RiggingNYC engineered a solution using a hydraulic gantry to lift the press in sections via a temporary floor cutout, lowering it to the ground floor in controlled stages. Custom steel bearing plates distributed the load on the first-floor structure during staging. A boom truck was staged on the street for final loading. All work was completed overnight to minimize business disruption.

Result

Press relocated, reinstalled, and operational at the new location within 72 hours of project start. No damage to press, floors, or building structure.

Frequently Asked Questions
We use a combination of hydraulic jacks, machinery skates, gantry cranes, and custom rigging configurations to navigate heavy equipment through doorways, around corners, through freight elevators, and along hallways. Our crews assess every access challenge in advance and engineer the move sequence before arriving on site.
Yes. We regularly perform machinery moves in occupied commercial and industrial buildings, scheduling work to minimize disruption to ongoing operations. We use floor protection systems, dust containment, and detailed move sequences to protect the building and its occupants.
Our specialty is the rigging and movement of machinery. We coordinate with your electricians, plumbers, and other trade contractors for disconnection and reconnection of utilities. In some cases, we can recommend licensed trades partners for a complete turnkey solution.
For unusually heavy equipment moves, we consult with a structural engineer prior to the move. We also use equipment spreader plates to distribute point loads over a wider floor area, reducing effective pounds per square foot on the structure.
We have experience moving single-piece equipment weighing up to 80,000+ lbs in NYC facilities. Contact us to discuss your specific equipment — we’ll assess the challenge and develop a plan.
Yes. RiggingNYC.com carries inland marine insurance coverage for equipment in our care, custody, and control during moves. Certificate of insurance available upon request.
