Under Bridge

Under-bridge access units for rent. Also called an under-bridge inspection unit, a bridge inspection truck or a snooper truck. The boom reaches over the parapet and lowers a platform beneath the deck, so crews reach the soffit and bearings without closing the road or water below.

It is the negative-reach problem: everything else goes up, this has to go over and then down. Available daily, weekly and monthly. We can supply an operator in New York City and the surrounding area; further out it goes as a bare rental.

Bridge work usually needs the lift supervised as well as supplied. Our licensed master riggers handle that side.

Common questions

What is a snooper truck?

Trade shorthand for an under-bridge inspection unit. The boom articulates over the bridge rail and lowers a work platform beneath the deck, giving access to the underside without scaffolding or a barge.

Do I need lane closures to use one?

Usually yes, because the truck sets up on the deck and needs outrigger room. That is a DOT filing rather than a DOB one and it is worth starting early. Tell us the structure and the span and we will tell you what the setup needs.

What can it reach?

These units are built for negative reach: over the parapet, then down and back under the deck. That is the problem no other aerial machine solves, which is why it is a specialty rental.

How much notice do you need, and what about site paperwork?

On a bare rental the constraint is availability, so tell us the dates and we will confirm what is free. Two things worth sorting early either way: many managed buildings require a certificate of insurance naming them as additional insured, so check their requirements before the day, and if you want us to run the lift rather than just supply the machine, permits can add time. Our permit breakdown covers what a given lift triggers.
