Does a rotating telehandler need a licensed operator in NYC?
Yes. Since 7 November 2024 a DOB-issued hoisting machine operator license is required to run an articulating boom crane, mini crane or rotating telehandler in the city, and it holds even when the equipment is exempt from a permit. Our permit breakdown covers what your lift triggers.
Is a rotating telehandler a crane?
Not legally, but it does crane work. With a hook or a jib it lifts and places suspended loads, which is what pulls it into the rigging and licensing rules rather than the forklift ones. Anything suspended also needs a licensed rigger supervising.
What reach do you carry?
From 67 to 150 feet across the fleet, with man basket work where the job calls for it. The 360-degree turret is what lets one machine place a load anywhere around itself without repositioning.
Do I need a licensed rigger to use this?
In New York City, lifting or lowering a suspended load has to be supervised by a licensed rigger, and that holds even when the machine itself is exempt from a permit. On a bare rental that supervision is yours to arrange. If you would rather we covered it, our master riggers do that work and we pull the DOB and DOT filings as part of the job.
How much notice do you need, and what about site paperwork?
On a bare rental the constraint is availability, so tell us the dates and we will confirm what is free. Two things worth sorting early either way: many managed buildings require a certificate of insurance naming them as additional insured, so check their requirements before the day, and if you want us to run the lift rather than just supply the machine, permits can add time.
