Common questions
What is the difference between a telehandler and a forklift?
A forklift carries a load close to the chassis and lifts it vertically. A telehandler extends a boom, so it reaches forward and upward to place loads at height and at distance. That reach is why it is the standard machine for feeding scaffolds and upper decks.
Do I need a licensed operator for a telehandler in NYC?
For a fixed-boom telescopic forklift the requirements differ from a rotating telehandler, which does require a DOB hoisting machine operator license. Our permit breakdown covers which rules apply to which machine.
Do I need a licensed rigger to use this?
In New York City, lifting or lowering a suspended load has to be supervised by a licensed rigger, and that holds even when the machine itself is exempt from a permit. On a bare rental that supervision is yours to arrange. If you would rather we covered it, our master riggers do that work and we pull the DOB and DOT filings as part of the job.
How much notice do you need, and what about site paperwork?
On a bare rental the constraint is availability, so tell us the dates and we will confirm what is free. Two things worth sorting early either way: many managed buildings require a certificate of insurance naming them as additional insured, so check their requirements before the day, and if you want us to run the lift rather than just supply the machine, permits can add time. Our permit breakdown covers what a given lift triggers.
